A-level results: Tower Hamlets pupils improving at a faster rate than nationally

Over 2,000 students in the borough celebrated their A-level and Level 3 vocational qualifications on Thursday 14 August.

Pupils in Tower Hamlets are improving their A-level results at a faster rate than the England average. 

 Over 2,000 students in the borough celebrated their A-level and Level 3 vocational qualifications yesterday (Thursday 14 August).

Nearly three quarters (73.4 per cent) of pupils received A* to C grades in their A-levels, a 4.2 per cent increase on last year at 69.2 per cent. This compares to the increase across England on 1.7 per cent.  

Almost one-fifth (18.5 per cent) achieved an A* or A grade, a 2.7 per cent increase compared to 2024.
 

Lutfur Rahman, Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: 

“Well done to all of our students in Tower Hamlets who have received their A-level results, and a huge thank you to all the teachers and members of staff for their hard work behind the scenes.

“I’m incredibly proud of the academic talent and drive of our young people. As a council we remain committed to supporting our young people by providing safe spaces such as youth centres, free school meals, Education Maintenance Allowance and University Bursaries.

“Everyone should be proud of the hard work and effort they’ve put in throughout the school year, well done.”

Cllr Maium Talukdar, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Lifelong Learning, said:  

“Congratulations to everyone who received their A-level and Level 3 results yesterday. You have all worked extremely hard and should be proud of your achievements.

“Tower Hamlets Council students have truly excelled this year. A*-C grades have soared by 4.2 per cent to an impressive 69.2% in just one year, a remarkable increase compared to the England average. We are immensely proud of our schools, our youth, and every educator who has contributed to this success.

“Thank you to our great Headteachers and members of staff who have supported students throughout their time at school with their studies and their wellbeing. 

“We hope all the young people enjoy results day, and enjoy all the free activities taking place in the borough, including our Young Tower Hamlets Summer Takeovers in the parks every week in August.”

High achievers from George Green School 

Riley Caink, received 4 A*’s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computing and is looking forward to starting a degree apprenticeship at the university of Exeter. 

Eiliyah Rahman, received A*BB in Sociology, English Literature and History. She is looking forward to studying history at Queen Mary University.

High achievers from the Young Mayor Team  

Deputy Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Rochelle Lewis-Geary, received AAA in English Literature, Politics and Ancient History. She is looking forward to studying Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick.

Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Fetuma Hassan has been accepted into Harvard University to study Government with Economics.
